The last, golden light of Summer will shine down upon the verdant fields of combat this September as doughty souls from across An Tir vie in our championship competitions.

The crash and strum of Heavies fighters will ring out across the forests and glades.  The flash of keen arrow flight or speeding blade will slice through the air.  Come see the display of prized An Tirian combat, or perhaps take part yourself!  On this date the Fates will decide who is worthy to wear the mantle of Champion at the Dragon’s Mist Heavies Championship and Tri-Bat Tournament!

All Championship Contestants Must Be Blue-Card Members of the SCA.

DM Heavies:  The Dragon’s Mist Heavies Championship competition is one shrouded in mystery, as the current champion, Duke Amalric Blackheart, will only reveal the secrets of this endeavor to the brave souls who arrive to fight.  Bring armor, bring weapons, and gird yourself for the unknown!

DM Archery:  Unusual Distances Shoot – Competitors will shoot rounds of 6 arrows at standard scoring targets… but at distances unknown!  Current  Archery Champion Rashida will roll her dice to determine how far away targets will be placed at the competition.  Please bring your own gear.

DM Thrown Weapons:  Again, this challenge is cloaked in secrecy, an enigma only to be revealed to those with the courage to chance the void.  DM’s current Champion, Gerik of Oakhurst, is plotting something truly challenging as we speak!

3M Archery:

Good things come in threes! And as such we shall have three main challenges for our archers vying to wear the Three Mountains Champion’s Cloak, and be the first name inked onto the new Legacy Scroll!

As our archery predecessors were required to learn to shoot the narrow pocket of an arrow slit, so shall you! The arrow slits are based on two historical and common designs, and cut onto a rounded surface mimicking the walls of a tower. You will have #3 arrows, and two different slits to choose from, one being more difficult and worth more points.

Next a bird shoot styled after the historical ‘Popinjay’ contest. Your birds are coloured like the rounds of a target and you must shoot at each bird in succession from raven to jay to robin. To increase the challenge you must use the bow/s provided (#24 lbs) and flu-flu arrows fitted with blunt tips (provided).

Lastly, and is our Flying Pig Portnoi. Upon hearing the saying “when pigs fly” Portnoi snorted (as pigs do) and promptly went to the internet (‘cause even a pig knows you can get anything on the internet). Wings acquired, Portnoi has been circling my living room practicing elevation, circles and evasion maneuvers, much to the annoyance of the cats. You will have #3 arrows to attempt to bring Portnoi down.

The top two finishers for our challenges three will have a short shoot-off, to be announced.

3M Thrown Weapons: Donnina Donatelli is, likewise, planning something to amaze and challenge all comers for the 3M mantle!  More information will follow soon!

Stromgard Stormhunter:  The call has been put forth from Their Excellencies of Stromgard. A new Stormhunter must be chosen. All those wishing to compete for the honorable title of Stormhunter must present themselves at opening court on September 7th. Competitors will need to be able to survive the beautiful wilds of our region by crossing rivers and stalking prey. Use arrows and spear to provide food for the Barony. Use swift and precise skill with ax and knife to protect its people and rid the Barony of bandits. Be prepared to tackle some minor obstacles and think quickly as some targets may move.

You will need to have: Bow and 8 arrows, 1 Spear, 1 Throwing Knife, and 1 Throwing axe. (Loaner spear, knife and axe will be available if needed. Please have your own bow and arrows ready.)

If you have questions, comments or concerns please contact Lady Kata (Breanna Quinones) via facebook or email at Breanna_q@live.com

This will be a competition you wont want to miss. Test your skills and maybe you will be the next Stormhunter!

Their Excellencies of Stromgard, Three Mountains, and Dragon’s Mist have all declared their archery and thrown weapons championship competitions to be open to all comers.  Take part in one, two, or all three Baronies’ tests of nerve and skill!  However, you can only be one Barony’s Champion – if you win more than one competition, you must choose which Barony you wish to represent, and let the other’s mantle fall to another.

Site Information:

This event will be held at the lush and beautiful Ten O’clock Acres farm, located in Beavercreek.  Court and Heavies erics will be located on Pasture 4, with Tri-Bat being located on Pasture 3.  On your stroll from Gate to our location, you may see some of the site’s well-cared-for livestock.  The site owners have asked that we do not bother, molest, or otherwise interfere with their animals without supervision.  Additionally, the site owners are providing a mechanized baggage train to assist with transporting pavilions or other materials from Gate to our location.  Absolutely no cars will be allowed on the farmland.  This is a working farm.

Parking:

There is limited parking at the front of the property.  Drivers may be directed by site greeters to an overflow area.  To limit congestion, carpooling and ride sharing is encouraged.

We are very excited to see you all at the DM Heavies Championship and Tri-Bat!!
