Bold Tir Righ,
The Winds of Change blow cold across our Stormy Principality, and while we celebrate the shining reign of Hurricane Prince Havordh and Tempest Princess Mary Grace, we must also prepare for the twilight of Their Brilliance.
The rain-drenched Barony of Lions Gate invites you to take shelter (indoors!) and witness the ascension of the next Storm Prince and Princess, February 16th, at the ancestral meeting place of the Cloverdale Fairgrounds.
Please pay heed, this is a single day event, and the Stewards are still busily packing all of the expected activities and delights into a tight schedule.

Classes Offered

9 AM Marshaling taught by Master Nikolai
1,2&3 SEWINGS NON-ADHESIVE BOOKBINDING with Maminka the Bohemian
12:30 Astrology with Dr Carus
Heraldry: Novus II Sadhbh Bheag

MARSHALLING No Cost
This will be an introduction to marshalling in the SCA. It will look at marshalling in general, tourney, war and demo marshalling. We will look at what are some of the problems and how to deal with them.

1,2&3 SEWINGS NON-ADHESIVE BOOKBINDING with Maminka the Bohemian

For experienced beginners + above:
We will be learning to create books of numerous sizes (from one to three signatures) using exposed spine sewing methods. No paste, no glue. This is sometimes referred to as ‘non-adhesive binding’ We will be using paper limp covers as opposed to bookboard, and from one to two needle techniques. We will be using a technique known as ‘continuous support sewing’. The spine of your ‘book’ is decorated by the process of sewing. Patterning can be created using traditional bookbinding/sewing stitches as well as adapting embroidery stitches. We will also pay homage to the pamphlet sewing technique.
Students should bring if possible, two needles that are conducive to thick sewing. These can be picked up at the local Dollar Store in a package called ‘Repair Needle Assortment’, or tapestry type needles. They need a fairly large eye for threading and a thicker body for piercing multiple layers of paper. Bring a notebook & pencil as well. Bring your enthusiasm!! I will supply all paper and other necessities.
