Fighting!

Duellists, sharpen your swords and vie for the
title of Rapier
Defender
!

“My Lords and Ladies it is I, Lord Mikkel,
Rapier Defender of the illustrious Shire of Glyn Dwfn. I bring to
you the news of a wondrous event. One that will be awash with all
the fighting. A double round robin in the steel fighting behemoth
of a shire, Glyn Dwfn.

“The next Defender will earn their title by
wading through the blood of the other challengers and those who
wish to test the field. However, the overall presence of all the
would-be champions shall not go unnoticed. Additional points will be earned for pageantry.
Display your banners and highlight your Inspiration in order to
improve your chances at becoming Glyn Dwfn’s next Rapier
Defender.”

Other martial
arts are not neglected. Kick off the day’s challenges with
Cut & Thrust
Scenarios
designed by the Principality C&T Marshal, Taran destingr. Heavy
fighters get their turn in the afternoon, with an Armored Combat Tourney
(with prizes!) organized by David of the Lame.

Arts!

Artisans of the Summits, prepare to win fame
as Glyn Dyfn’s Champion
of Arts and Sciences
! All who teach and share
their crafts, their arts and sciences, are called to make their way
to the Shire of Glyn Dwfn on Saturday, the 28th day of October.
There shall you represent yourself and your art, claiming all
honor, and for the benefit of all, in the annual Glyn Dwfn A&S
Championship.

And here are the rules of that Championship,
as determined by His Lordship Sarafine of Glyn Dwfn:
– Artisans shall prepare and teach a
short (15-30 minutes) class on any topic;

– The topic must have been studied or
the technique used in your persona’s time period;

– You shall provide a 1-page handout
for students (10 copies);

– You shall make yourself known to
the event steward, Mistress Sionnach, at scianna@foxsrest.com or
via FB before October 28 so as to schedule the time for your class.
Classes will be scheduled between 10am and 4pm at Samhain. Students
will be given a questionnaire to complete; the results will be
tabulated and the winner announced at the Samhain feast. Come claim
your place in the history of the Shire!

There will also
be an A&S
Display
, inspired by the request of our
beloved Tanist, Seamus O’Caelleigh. The theme of the display is
“What Do You Teach And Share?” All who are willing to teach and
share their crafts are asked to bring examples to set out in a
display. Do you paint? Do fine needlework? Work in wood, metal, or
bone? Please bring examples to share! (As it is a dry site, we
respectfully ask that brewers and vintners refrain from sharing.)
Tables will be provided. Identify your displays with your name and
a brief description of the art or science – that way, those who are
interested in learning more will know who to
contact.

Bards,
minstrels, and performers, we offer you a stage! (A real stage,
even.) Tune your voices and your instruments, and take the stage
for the Bardic
Competition
, hosted by the Summits’ own Bard, Iurii
Belogorski.

Heraldry!
Scriptorium!

Herald’s Point will be
open throughout the day, offering consultation on devices, badges,
and names. Remus Moore will have a selection of heraldic resources
available to assist you. We will also have an open Scriptorium from 10am
until 5pm. No experience is necessary – just the desire to paint
pretty things! Paints and brushes will be available, and we will
have plenty of items to paint, from award charters to period game
board designs.

Games!

Did we say board
games? Yes, we did. We will have a table set up with a variety of
Period Board
Games
for you to enjoy. While away the time between
tourneys with a round of Gluckhaus, or relax over a
light lunch with a few sets of backgammon. Instructions will be
provided – and the person who completes the greatest number of
different games will win a prize!

Feasting!

It would not be
a proper Samhain event without an amazing array of delectable food,
and this revel is no exception. A light lunch board will be
followed by the first stage of the Dessert Competition.
Competitors are asked to bring two of each entry – one dessert to
display, and one to sample.  (The display dessert will become
dessert for the evening feast.) Entries do not have to be period in
order to win the People’s Choice prize, which is based on flavor
and presentation alone. But provide a period recipe for your
dessert, as well as the source for that recipe, and your entry will
be added to the Juried Competition – o
ne simple documentation requirement for those just
dipping a spoon into culinary competition! But speaking of spoons,
please, no sweet soups, jellies, treacle, or other sticky messy
goodies, as the site has limited cooking or washing facilities.
Think tarts, small cakes, sweet bread, marzipan, and the like —
desserts that are easy to serve and require little cleaning up
after.
Winners in each
category will receive prizes courtesy of Mistress Melisande de
Frayne.

The highlight of the evening will be the grand
Harvest
Feast
, prepared by Mistress Melisande and her
cohort of cooks. The Samhain feast will consist
of:

·
Cockaleekie Soup (potato and leek
soup)

·
Mushroom Pasties

·
Baked Apple Chips

·
Roast Pork with Cabbage and
Onions

·

Tarts

·

Vegetables

·

·

·
…and, of course,
Desserts!

Ingredient lists will be available on site.
Please contact Mistress Melisande if you have any questions about
