Come help the shire of
Myrtleholt celebrate the feast of Saint Eggberts.

The story of St. Eggbert
of the chickens:

Eggbert was born, the third son of a fowler at
Hennford, England in the year 402 AD.  The local priest taught
him letters when he was seven. He bacame a wandering monk preaching
to any listener.  He used a hens egg to explain the Trinity
and while happily dining on roasted fowl said:  “if thy right
wing offend thee then then pluck it off.”  Eggbert was a pious
but odd man often sleeping in hen houses.  One night, fierce
vikings raided the small hold.  Eggbert, half asleep in the
coop was beaten to death by a huge Dane wielding a pair of pilfered
cocks.

The Shire of Myrtleholt celebrates St.
Eggbert’s Feast, because many years ago the Shire was given a
mystical sign.  There had been a feast wherein all meats were
poultry.  After this feast shire members exhibited red itchy
rashes, fevers and swelling of the bodies – all indicative of the
Pox of Henne.  Superstitious mutterings causes one Lady to
even change her name from “de Poullet” to “de Faucon”.  The
plague caused people to look to heaven for help.  A story was
circulated about the man called Eggbert who seemed a Saint.  A
large statue of a rooster was located in a nearby village. Plague
victims and survivors made pilgrimage there to beseech Eggbert to
end the plague.  They honored him with a feast in the Spring.
The Plague of Henne was gone.

Activities
Planned:

Myrtle Holt A&S Championship AS
51

Myrtle Holt welcomes all who wish to compete in
our 6th annual A&S Championship.
Please read the words of our current A&S Champion…

Calling all artisans of the
Summits. St. Eggbert’s Feast is soon going to be upon us.
With that comes the search for the new Arts and Sciences Champion
of the Incipient Barony of Myrtle Holt. It has been my honor to
hold this position for the past year and I am excited to welcome
the new holder of that title. So what is this championship going to
be all about, you may ask? Well, it is going to be exciting and
creative with a lot of room for imagination.

What I ask is that you enter
something that you have created that will
enhance your SCA persona. This can be just about
anything!
Did you add a bit of new trim to a piece of clothing?
Excellent!
Did you make a new accessory that brings your garb more
appropriately into your time period?  Perfect!
Wrote a song or a poem that was in keeping with entertainments of
your persona”  Fabulous!

Documentation doesn’t need to be huge or
elaborate, just explain a bit about what you’re entering, what it
is made from (if applicable),
how it augments your persona, and if you had an inspiration piece,
it would be great to include a photo for our judges to see.
BONUS POINTS:  Our current champion is offering up extra
credit if you go out to the An Tir Culture Wiki and update your
persona information.   The more detail you add in that
fills out details of your persona, the more points.
Consider back-story,
family relations, incorporating in well-known historical figures of
your time that you might have been an
associate…

3rd Annual Cut
& Thrust Rapier Championship

Myrtle Holt is very excited to announce our
second Cut and Thrust championship.

Tournament format will be double round robin
(unless 10 or more fighters enter the list, then it will be a
single round robin)following the warm up round where each combatant
must fight the current champion in a non-destructive bout to prove
their prowess. Finals will be best of five and combatants are
encouraged to display their prowess with multiple weapon
styles.

Time
permitting there will be pickup fights after the tourney. You do
NOT need to be authorized to participate in pick up fights, so if
you’d like to give this C&T thing everyone keeps talking about
a try, now’s your chance! No experience neccessary, just wear
closed shoes, long sleeves and pants/skirt/dress/hose capable of
covering all the skin on your lower body. Limited loaner gear will
be available

We look forward to finding out who will be our
next C&T Champion!!!

Heavy Fighting
Tournament

This year Myrtle Holt has
decided to host a “Defend the Egg”  Tournament for all those
interested.
More detailed rules will be provided on the day of the event, but
there will be two ways to be killed… the regular
way, by deathly stroke… or if your opponent manages to kill your
egg.

NEW!!! Rapier
Tournament

In the day
St. Eggbert, as his fame grew, there became a need for increased
protection of eggs, lest
they be eaten
before they could be incubated and then hatch and grow into
chickens.   It was one of Eggbert’s tests of purity
of
heart and soul, and steadiness of hand that those who dealt with
chickens be tested.   In recognition of the tests
those who subjected to, our rapier tournament is structured as
follows.

Each
fighter must fight while holding an egg on a spoon. If the egg
drops for any reason, the fight is lost.
All other rapier rules would apply, including switching arms if an
arm is struck.  The format should be double
round robin hold the field if we have less than 8 fighters and
double elimination if we have more than 8
fighters.
