Join us for a three-day, two night camping event with a focus on
learning and the Arts & Sciences. Instructors from near and far
will come to share their knowledge of the crafts belonging to the
medieval world as well as to the SCA. Classes will range from
discussion and lecture based to hands-on activities. A wide range
of arts will be covered including lampworking, fiber crafts,
cooking, embellishing, brewing, soap making, and more. Many classes
are youth friendly for older teens or geared for younger age
groups. Arts and Sciences are the primary focus but there will also
be classes on fighting theory and marshaling, discussions on
officer positions and leadership roles of the SCA. There will be
classes for sergeantry and history as well. Some classes will
require you to bring supplies or have a class fee, be sure to read
through the descriptions and contact the event team or instructor
with questions.

This event has also been combined with our Celtic Bardic event, so
join us Saturday evening and watch the candidates compete to earn
the title of Bardic champion! 

Site Fees: All youth 17 and younger are guests of the Barony and
are therefore free when attending with their legal guardians.
Please have waiver paperwork filled out in triplicate, one for
gate, one for the youth to carry, and one for the guardian/adult.

PRE-REG IS NOW CLOSED! This is a large site
however and we have plenty of room, come join us!!!

Anyone wishing to camp with a
trailer or RV please contact the event team prior to the event
either through Facebook or email. They will have to be
self-contained as hook-ups won’t be available, but there will be
space designated for you if you make arrangements ahead of
time.

Site will open at noon on Friday.
Site closes at 3pm Sunday.

Gate will open at noon on Friday,
9am on Saturday, and 9:30am on Sunday.

General site info: Parking will be
tight at this site, please attempt to limit the amount of vehicles
you bring to the event. Carpooling is highly encouraged.
Driving/Parking is allowed on marked roads and gravel ONLY so plan
accordingly. 

The main building will be
closed and locked at 10pm each evening. Portable toilets
(including wheelchair accessible ones) will be provided for
overnight campers and outside activities during the day. Since
this site is very close to the river we ask that using the
restrooms that are indoors remain extremely limited, as too much
usage can overload the septic systems.

There will be no dumpster provided,
we ask you pack out everything you bring in with the exception of
fire remnants. Site has a location where ashes can be disposed
of, which will be clearly marked near the bardic area. Pets are
allowed on the site but must be cleaned up after and kept on a
leash. *** There are nesting eagles at the site, PLEASE be mindful
of small dogs as they could be attacked and harmed if allowed to
run about.

Description: Fire is one of the most useful tools of a medieval
person, but it is also one of the most dangerous. This class will
go over fire building and safety for youth and anyone else who
would like to attend.

Description: A summary and taste testing of Welsh foods appropriate
to tourney or camp cooking, with hands on experimentation of a
variety of recipes including a cawl (soup), cawys poby (toasted
cheese/Welsh Rarebit) and crempog (savory pancakes).

areas are open for socializing, games such as Bocce and other
activities. Fire will be lit near the Bardic area and music,
drumming, dancing, etc. are welcome until 10pm. While neighbors are
a bit far from the heart of the site, the manager has requested we
keep it down after 10pm. Hall will be closed after 10, as several
people with mobility issues have requested to sleep
there.

Description: Pick a piece of fabric that has a pre-made design you
like. Use a spray bottle filled with paint colors of your choice to
create a unique piece of fabric. Fabric will be laid out in the sun
to dry, youth can pick up their fabric later in the day after they
have dried completely. As this craft is finished quickly but needs
to dry for some time, other craft activities will be available,
such as sewing sachets or creating faux stained glass window
hangings.

Banner Painting Part 1

fit within a 12″ X 12″ area, a rag for spills, and clothes that can
get messy/an apron.
Description: In the first session of this class, we will work with
prepared-for-tracing fabric. A light box will be available for
easier tracing. Fabric with design will then be mounted onto a
frame. Next the design will be worked with a water-based resist.
The designs will then be set aside to dry in preparation for the
second session.

small battery operated tea-light for safe usage in
tents.

Description: Some Dutch oven cooking basics, with the focus on a
recipe instructor has used a number of times, “Jalapeno Corn

will be prepping some Jalapeno poppers with currant recipe he has
been using. He will supply copies of each recipe, and (if all goes
well) have some samples for those attending to have and try.

Medieval Soap

Description: A hands on soap making workshop that focuses on hot
process soap making, as period as you can get without the chemical

Pattern Drafting

Cost or supplies needed: Paper and writing tools for note taking

Description: The course details drafting a reusable paper pattern
from measurements taken from life. There is no duct tape used in
this method. If you have been patterning and fitting with duct
tape, this is the next step up. The purpose of making a paper
pattern is the ease of replicating a garment without having to
start from scratch each time a specific garment is desired, or
risking wasting expensive fabrics on an ill-fitting or unwearable
garment. This method works with rectangular construction as well as
more fitted garment styles. This is a very basic class but it would
be most helpful for everyone to have some prior experience in
cutting and sewing from paper patterns (even if unsuccessfully).
The class will concentrate on drafting and altering the paper
pattern. I will expect that you know what to do with the pattern
once it is made. There will be no sewing during the class.
Instructor will demonstrate how and where measurements are taken
and how to translate those measurements to paper to create a
medieval “sloper”. Instructor will then manipulate the sloper to
give the clothing style desired. She will show a “muslin” or test
garment cut and sewn from a similar pattern to explain fitting and
the alterations made to the paper pattern to correct errors in fit.
Instructor will also show a finished garment.

Description: Learn to cast on, and to create basic knit and purl
stitches.

BARDIC CHAMPIONSHIP: Contestants will gather at the
bardic area to perform for the event attendees and the judges.

Competition challenge: Contestants will make two
presentations.

           
1: A serious performance (music, poetry, etc.) in a period style,
to be judged upon quality.

           
2: A fun performance (spirited, spritely, or amusing), to be judged
on how close you can   get HE Hengist to jump up and dance or
laugh until drink spews out of his nose.

A panel of judges will determine the winner.

to choose new Bardic Champion from contestants, as well as a quick
break before court for people to grab food.

areas are open for socializing, games such as Bocce and other
activities. Fire will be lit near the Bardic area and music,
drumming, dancing, etc. are welcome until 10pm. While neighbors are
a bit far from the heart of the site, the manager has requested we
keep it down after 10pm. Hall will be closed after 10, as several
people with mobility issues have requested to sleep
there.

Cost or supplies needed:  Students should bring anything they
have on hand that they do not have to buy, instructor will have
some supplies to use in class in case they want to try before
investing any money into the craft (useful supplies you could bring
include, but are not limited to: embroidery hoops in varying sizes
and styles, needles, some pre-washed cotton or linen fabric and any
special color/or type of thread they want to try. Instructor will
have an assortment of threads and colors)
Description: Embroidery stitches and instruction for
beginners.

IMPORTANT SAFETY
STUFF!!!! The Puyallup River borders this site and it is
running low, so there is a drop off along the bank. Please keep an
eye on small children at all times and encourage older children to
stick with a buddy. Since members of the Sportsmen’s association
fish along the river, walking barefoot is a bad idea, as stray
hooks could be among the rocks and bank. Swimming is not allowed.
Remember that rivers can have fast currents and it could be very
dangerous. While walking along the river and the small pond will
probably be included in one of our instructor’s classes, its
probably better to not go into the water.
