Yule Feast in Borealis

Edmonton, AB

December 13, 2014

The Barony of Borealis invites our friends and neighbours to
celebrate mid-winter at Yule Feast, Saturday December 13. The day’s
events are to include the Borealis Bardic Championship, games &
dance, activities & classes, and, best of all, the company of
friends, both old and new.

Borealis Bardic
Championship:

The tournament is open to all residents of Borealis and to active
Borealis Sergeants residing outside of its borders.
All those wishing to vie for champion must submit to the following
criteria for entry:

  • Each participant is to present Their Excellency’s with a
    statement or prepared letter of intent.
  • Minimum 2 performance pieces in Song, Story, Poem,
    Instrumental, Theatrical, Puppetry, Magic, Dance or any other
    performance art. Performers are not limited to the same style for
    each piece they are performing.
  • Limitation regarding “bawdy” songs as this is a
    family event.
  • Minimum 1 Documentable piece; Pre 1700 AD or Neo-Historical
    (SCA living History) Other piece(s) of Bards choice.
  • Have a paid membership in the SCA and maintain the same during
    their tenure as a Champion of Borealis.
  • The successful champion will arrange a tournament for a Bardic
    War Point for Winter War.
  • The successful champion will in one years’ time arrange a
    competition to find their successor.

The tournament will be held from 1pm to 4pm.


Feast:

The Borealis Cooking Guild is looking forward to providing our
hospitality coordinating this year’s glorious feast.

Here is the tentative menu for the feast
– subject to change and whim of the cooks

– Appetizer
Saffron Bread
Garlic soft cheese
Leek Soup
Chorizo sausages
Olives

-1st course

Armored chicken legs
Pepper sauce
Fried spinach with pomegranate
Chickpeas and rice

– 2nd course
Lamb Casserole
Asparagus
Carrot Puree
Ypocras

– Desserts
Almond Cake
Custard Tarts

Food concerns:
For gluten worries — the only dishes containing gluten are the
bread and the desserts. There will be some custard tarts in
gluten-free shells, and there will be yummy gluten-free
alternatives for the bread and almond cake.

NOTE: The feast is now fully booked
but we are keeping a waiting list!  

To reserve, please send your SCA name, mundane name and
membership number to Inga the Unfettered (Michelle Height) at
michelle.height@ualberta.ca by THURSDAY December
11th.

will also be taken on-site but space is limited in some classes so
register to ensure you get to join in on the fun! Registrations can

Fees:

Feast Fee: $15

Site Fee:
Adult: $10
Child (ages 16 and under) – Free

Non-Member Surcharge – A $5 NMS fee will be applied to all adult
site fees for those individuals that cannot show proof of
membership.

Make cheques payable to “SCA-Barony of Borealis”.

 

Merchanting

There is no fee for displaying/selling wares but space is
limited.
