Baronial
Rapier Championship

ALL entrants
must present themselves before Their Excellencies at morning court
on Saturday.

The rules for the fighting and the awards of
“Points” (in the form of coins) are as
follows:

Fights can only be ended by a killing blow to the opponent, this
consists of a valid blow to the torso, head or neck, this
also includes the armpit to approximately 3 inches down
the under side of the arm, and the inner thigh approximately 3
inches from the groin.

Any valid blows to arms and or legs that are not a killing blow
will not be counted as loss of limb however they will be counted in
the modifiers for the coins awarded. Fighters struck in the arm or
leg must verbally acknowledge the blow to their opponent so that
all may know they were struck a valid blow. Repeatedly striking the
same limb does not garner any advantage to the striking fighter
(Ill elaborate on this in the award of points below)

At the end of each bout the winner and loser must present
themselves to the Baron and Baroness as well as their advisers for
distribution of the winnings, at this time they will also have the
opportunity to receive discretionary coins from the baroness (
detailed in the next section)

At the end of the bouts the combatants will count up the coins they
have won and any additional discretionary coins and the person with
greatest number will be the winner, if we end in a tie then we will
have a best of 5 fights with the winner having to win 3 consecutive
fights

Distribution of coins:

5 coins will be awarded on the completion of the bout to the
winner.

1 coin will be removed from this total at the end of the fight for
each limb taken by an opponent but only form the winner of the
bout.

Each coin lost by the victor of the bout is given to the losing
fighter (the person that took the

limbs).

As an example fighter A and fighter B square off, Fighter A wounds
fighter B in the arm, fighting continues as if the wound did not
occur, fighter B then wounds fighter A in the arm. Fighter A then
wounds fighter B in the leg and fighter B kills fighter A with a
valid blow to the head.

In this scenario Fighter B wins, however fighter B did not protect
himself well so he has not won the entire 5 coins. Fighter B
receives 3 coins 5 coins – 2 wounds (arm and leg) = 3 coins.
The other ramification of this is that fighter A having lost the
bout still receives 2 coins due to the wounds he delivered to
fighter B. Fighter A does not lose a coin for his wounds because he
lost the bout.

This system sets up a scenario where in some instances a fighter
can lose the bout and still come out the victor in coin count, this
encourages all fighters to be careful and protect themselves at all
times and not just poke and pray, as well as it discourages anyone
from simply sacrificing a limb to gain a kill. However while this
“discourages” this behavior the fighters can still
decide to do it (no system is perfect)

Discretionary coins:

The Baroness will be given a sack of coins for her use as
discretionary awards, these can be given to fighter or not at the
whim of her excellency they can be awarded for anything from
chivalric action to impressing the baroness with the cut of their
clothing or simply because the baroness feels like it. This is the
great leveler, as discretionary the baroness can choose to do
anything she likes the coins including influencing the
outcome..

Format of the fighting:

I personally prefer to see all fighting styles represented by
fighters and this is sure gauge of their true abilities in all
forms, the one form I detest and which leads to the most sloppy
fighting is Case or Florentine (2 rapiers)

The recommendation for this is that we have all fighters fight all
fighters once (round robin) each fighter can choose their own
weapon styles however each style must be used before the fighter
can repeat a style. The 5 styles that will be used are:

Single Sword

Sword and Dagger

Sword and Buckler

Sword and Cloak

Sword and Baton or Cane

If there is a tie breaker then the tie breaking bouts will be
fought with her excellencies weapon choice. This combat will
require the attendance of her excellency for the entire time
however I have been assured that the Autocrat will account for this
in her scheduling of competitions. I as the outgoing Champion will
attend her excellency and explain any oddities in the rapier
fighting that she so desires or I will arrange for other advisers
if she so pleases.

Baronial Archer
Championship

Please make sure you read the the duties and obligations of a
Champion.

The Baronial Archer competition will take place Saturday morning.
ALL entrants must present themselves before the
Baron and Baroness at opening court on Saturday morning.

The Boar’s Hunt activites will be held on Saturday afternoon. HL
Torn has a surprise in order.

The range will be open on Sunday for shooting for scores.

Baronial YAC
Champion

 Youths from all three
divisions are welcome to enter the tournament, however, the
Baronial Champion will be chosen from the Dragon Division only for
reasons of duty and responsibility.

For those who wish to enter, please
inform me of your intention after sending your letter of intent
(email) to the Baron or Baroness, (this is so I have a good idea of
who will all be attending).

If you have questions regarding the
letter of intent, please let me know.

Please find below the specific
requirements and format for the YAC Tournament.

COMPETITION FORMAT

a) The entrants must attend morning court the day of the tournament
and be prepared to present themselves to their Excellencies along
with the other competitors when they are called forth for the
invocation.

b) The entrants must present
themselves to the YAC Warden following court the day of the
tournament to declare their intentions to enter the
competition.

c) The entrants must have a parent
or guardian present at all times during the competition.

d) The entrant must pass armor
inspection and have a clear understanding of the rules of combat as
set forth in the An Tir Book of Youth Armoured Combat.

e) It should be understood that
youth champions, as opposed to adult champions, may not be
considered officers of the SCA and shall have no corporate
responsibilities.

f) The tournament will be fought in
a round robin format. All combatants will be allowed to fight each
other at least once. At the end, the two combatants with the
highest ratio of wins to loses will fight in a separate “finals
tournament” the format being the best two out of three.

g) The “Finals
Tournament” will be a best out of three separate bouts. In
the past, theses competitions have each featuring a different set
of weapons; Sword & Shield, Great Swords &
Glaves.  However, I will give the two finalists a choice
as to which weapons they would like to use in the Finals
bout.

Please Note: If used, the Great
Weapons will be supplied to the combatants but it is expected they
will bring their own sword & shield.

Baronial Equestrian
Champion

Their
Excellencies Steinolf and Sineidin, Baron and Baroness of
Aquaterra, are pleased to announce the creation of a new Equestrian
Championship. This first competition will be in the form of a
quest, which officially begins at Aquaterra’s All Champions/ Boars
Hunt.

Scores
from any equestrian contest
held at any SCA event in the
Knowne World will count towards the total accrued score.
Competitors will need to get the Equestrian Marshal in Charge
(EMIC) to verify their placing in the event, the event name/date,
and the number of competitors, as this is part of the scoring
calculations. Scores for the Championship must be submitted by noon
Monday September 24, 2012 and the first Equestrian Champion of
Aquaterra shall be announced and inducted during Evening Court at
Banner War (Saturday Sept 29th).

Just like in
archery, the competitors score will be based on an average of their
top three scores – this means that every candidate will need
to compete in a minimum of three equestrian competitions, but the
greater the number of events, the better the chance for a good
score.
