Come one, come all ye Bards, Troubadours, Trouveres,
Minnesangers, Skalds, Poets, Wordsmiths, Jugglers, Performers…
AND those gentles who love to hear and see these gifts of
entertainment as the Barony of Dragon’s Laire hosts their inaugural
Bardic Madness (and Baronial Picnic) in the Uplands of Port Gamble,
WA!  The theme of the event is a celebration of all things
bardic and mixing it into all aspects of the SCA experience…

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

05 AUG 11
(FRIDAY)

1200 – SITE OPENS

DUSK – ROVING BARDIC PERFORMANCES… relax and enjoy
yourself! 

06 AUG 11
(SATURDAY)

0900 – “SIEGE” ARTS and SCIENCE COMPETITION COMMENCES –
Participants given a bag of “stuff” and instructions to
create a work of “art”!  Leopard print duct tape MAY be
involved! 

        – ARTS and
SCIENCES TOURNEY SET-UP – Contestant will produce, bring, and
present a historically-inspired but original entry based on ANY
Western Europe domestic item from the 13th century.  Entry
should include a picture or description of what inspired the
creation o the piece and a 3×5 index card that outlines what the
item is and who may have used it in period application. 
Contest is meant to challenge your creativity more so than
reproduce a historically accurate piece.  Victor will be
decided by Their Excellencies of Dragon’s Laire with aid of
populace vote!      

1000 – ARCHERY RANGE OPENS (York Shoot/Clout Shoot/Royal
Rounds)

1100 – LISTS OPEN FOR HEAVY/RAPIER COMBATANTS

        – ARMOR INSPECTIONS
COMMENCE

1200 – HEAVY WEAPONS COURTLY LOVE TOURNEY – Fighters must
be announced onto the field by a field herald and then perform an
ode to their inspiration.  Prizes for most
inspirational, best use of pageantry, and Baroness’ Choice!

        – RAPIER BARDIC
CONTEST – Fighters must fight whilst either singing a
song or reciting a piece (period pieces not required but should be
family friendly).  Bardic performance willl factor in
significantly in determination of winner!   

1700 – BARONIAL POTLUCK FEAST – Food, fun, and frolic! 
Bardic performances encouraged during feast!  Barony of
Dragon’s Laire to provide the beast and populace to bring what
you wish to share with your fellow gentles… however, as a
suggestion, mundane last names starting with A-P might bring a side
dish while mundane names staring with Q-Z might bring a
dessert. 

DUSK – SUMMER BARDIC COMPETITION – Contestants will prepare two
(or more if desired) entries to be performed for Their Excellencies
of Dragon’s Laire!  No documentation required but a simple
explanation of when, where, what, and how the pieces would be
performed in period is desired.  All categories of performance
WILL be allowed with prizes for each category including:

                 
– 1) historically inspired original work, 2) SCA or historical
filk, 3) song, 4) dance, 5) story-telling, 6) theatre, 7)
puppetry, 8) riddles, 9) poetry, 10) whatever else may have been
done in
period!

With all site fees, non-member surcharge (NMS) of $5 will be
applied to each adult that is unable to provide proof of
membership. The NMS is not included in the modern family site fee
cap.
