Sergeantry
Trials
– June 20, 2009

Candidates contest to become recognized as a sergeant of the
Barony.  One
must successfully demonstrate a much better than average
understanding and practice of the customs of society during
the period of time covered by the SCA.  The
successful candidate is a warrior with demonstrated
leadership skills.  Candidates may be
warriors with skill in heavy armored combat, rapier,
equestrian, or archery.  Candidates must
also possess the qualities of honor, integrity and compassion
found in the highest ideals of the codes of
chivalry.  This is a one day
event.

Saturday, June

Morning Court (baronial
pavilion)          
               
10 a.m.


Baron Arnsbjorn and Baroness Reginleif, Stromgard, will
conduct court, where awards will be given, announcements made
and the sergeantry candidates will present the history of
their persona wearing at least one garment made by their own
hand, demonstrate courtly skills, and display their device in
the form of a banner or a shield.

Armor
Inspection (behind baronial
pavilion)      10:30

Baron Arnsbjorn will:



·        


Observe while the candidates inspect the equipment of several
other fighters.



·        


Ask candidates questions to test their knowledge of proper
equipment.  



·        


Inspect at least one piece of armor and one weapon made by
the candidates for their own use.

Heavy
Combat (behind baronial
pavilion)          
11:00 a.m.


The heavy combatants will be tested during a round robin
tournament followed by war band scenarios.

Equestrian candidates will teach medieval games in the main
hall.

Equestrian Inspection (horse
arena)      
               
12:30 p.m.


Baroness Reginleif will:

Observe while the candidates inspect their own equipment and
the equipment of at least one other horse and ask candidates
questions to test their knowledge of equipment.



·        


Inspect the condition of each
horse.      



·        


Inspect at least one piece of armor and one weapon made by
each candidate for their own use.

Equestrian Games (horse

The Lancer candidates will compete in a series of contests to
test their skills.

Heavy combat candidates will teach medieval games in the main
hall.

Ladies Court (baronial
pavilion)                               
3 p.m.


Baroness Reginleif will convene a Ladies Court of Honor to
discuss past and present courtesy of the candidates.
Questions concerning chivalry, courtly behavior and honor
will be asked of the candidates during a 5-10 minute session.
All are invited to witness the Q and A session.

Candidate Discussion (baronial
pavilion)            
4 p.m.


The Baroness will meet with the Baron, current sergeants and
chivalry to discuss the candidates.

Potluck Feast (main
hall)                                       
5:30 p.m.


The candidates will each give their bardic presentations
during the feast. Feast participants should bring a dish that
is enough to feed their own family plus 10
others.

Dish or Vegetables; M-S: Main Dishes; T-Z:
Deserts/Fruits.

Awards will be given and the new sergeants
recognized.
