SPRING NEWCOMER’S ENCAMPMENT
CANTON OF AKORNEBIR
MAY 9-11, 2003

The Canton of Akornebir welcomes one and all to our 3rd Annual Spring Newcomer’s Encampment. Come and find out about the SCA! This year, the emphasis will be on SCA-style camping basics (tents, period camp furniture, fire, food, garb, entertainment etc) with Arts & Science classes and demos. We expect to have some great classes and also hope to have fighter authorization again this year. If you’re an old hand, come and share your talents, skills and enthusiasm with those who are new to the SCA and SCA-style camping.

A newcomers packet will be sent upon request, with your registration packet.

The Canton Cooking Guild will provide basic meals for campers starting with a Friday evening traveler’s meal of soup, bread and cheese, and ending with the Sunday midday meal. We will once again have a wonderful feast Saturday night. Participants are asked to bring fresh veggies, salad or a veggie side dish for the feast. The Canton will provide coffee, tea and hot chocolate in the mornings. Please bring any other beverages. Since this is not being held in a State or County park,

SITE: This year, we are on privately owned property and will be able to have one large encampment with a community/bardic fire pit in the middle for all to share. The site is WET, period containers only. There’s plenty of room for everyone and a nice hill to defend for those who have the warrior instinct, so bring your armor, and your attitude! There are no trees, so be sure to bring shade pavilions (if you have them) along with your tents. Potable water is available on site, but is limited, so please plan to bring water. There are local stores within 15 min. drive of the site. Plan for cool-cold nights and warm days.

REGISTRATION: Campers must register in advance. Contact autocrat for registration forms, either by phone or e-mail. Registration forms will be sent out via e-mail or snail mail and must be returned to the Autocrat, no later than 4/26/03 with event fees.

DOGS: The site is a working farm with livestock. Only a limited number of dogs will be allowed on site. You MUST contact the Autocrat before registering, if you intend to bring a dog. You must be able to provide proof that your dog’s vaccinations are current. The Constable at the gate will have a list of people who have pre-registered their dogs. If your dog is not on the list, or you cannot show proof that its shots are current, the dog will not be allowed on site. Period. All dogs must be on a leash or tie-out and under control at all times. If your dog barks excessively or does not get along with other people or animals, please leave it at home.

MERCHANTS WELCOME: No special merchant fee, just the regular gate fee.
