The Golden Bard Contest
At “Long and Short of It” August 9-11, 2002

Categories include: Singing, Poetry, Storytelling, Instrumental
Performance

Rules:
– 7 minute time limit per performance
– All entries must be period, or have a period topic and sound, and must
be suitable for all ages
– Documentation is encouraged, and a copy of the text/lyrics will be
appreciated by the judges
– Reluctantly, we must limit the number of entries to 20

Registration for the contest will be on site only. All who enter will
receive a participation token. You need not enter to enjoy the
competition – we will need an audience for our bards!

our Long and Short of It tournament.

Building Better Encampments
Children and Novices
A novice artisan is someone who has never displayed or competed or has done
so once, maybe twice, before. The category for this competition is an
encampment accessory. You may enter up to three items in this novice level.
Documentation is not required, but you will need to know enough about your
project(s) to give a brief description of its history and how you made it in
order to fill out the entry forms.

There will be both a Populace Favorite (beads in a can) and a Judges
Favorite – total of two winners.

Laurels, experienced artisans, peers, nobles and royals, please bring
largesse to reward and encourage our young and novice artisans!

Intermediary Artisans
An intermediary artisan is someone who has displayed or competed several
times and has not won a competition in this chosen art form. The category
for this competition is an encampment accessory. You may enter up to two
items at the intermediary level. Minimal documentation is required, to show
that this item may have been used in period. You will also need to know
enough about your project(s) to give a good description of its use in
history and how you made it in order to fill out the entry forms.

Practiced Artisans
A practiced artisan is someone who has displayed or competed several times
and won a competition or two of any level. The category for this
competition is either the entire encampment or a specific area; i.e.
kitchen, sleeping area, storage area etc. Minimal documentation is required
to show why you believe an encampment may have been set up this way or you
may document the accessories and items used to outfit the area being judged.
You will be expected to know enough about your encampment to answer any
questions the judges may have. Please indicate on the entry form the area
being judged.
