My lords and ladies, pray attend! 

The Shire of Hauksgarðr invites you to join us for a relaxing
day at our 10th annual August in the Park event. Share in a potluck
feast, enter a contest, take a class…there will plenty of
activities to choose from if you wish, or just relax in the shade
of the big trees if that’s your preference!. 

Fees:
There is no gate fee…yes, it’s
free!

Tournaments:

We will be holding our Heavy Defender’s Tourney to select the
Shield of Hauksgrðr. We invite all fighters to come test the
skill of our fighters, and to try for a prize of their
own. 

A&S Contest:

The “Hauksgrðr
Half-dozen” largess contest. Bring 6
similar items appropriate for largess. They don’t need to be
identical. Examples – 6 pouches, necklaces, etc. Entries will
be voted on throughout the day and a favorite chosen. The winner
will get one of each entry to keep and the rest go into largess to
be given out at other events in the kingdom. Include a small blurb
explaining your item if need be. Label (discreetly) with your
name

Classes: 

Heavy combat, Rapier or A&S…we have classes for
everyone!. Currently scheduled
classes include:

Basics of Heavy combat;
  

Learning the Roman Knuckle
bone Dice Game; 

Make a Penanular
Brooch;

The game of
Petanque;

Viking wire woven
jewelry; 

Lampworked glass
beads;

Harp 101 – learn to
play

Potluck: Bring your
favorite dish to share. We have a shelter with power, so crockpots
are ok. Please remember that some people have food allergies so
please label with your ingredients. Bring enough food to feed 10
people or more. Bring your own feast gear and
drinks.

Cascade Locks has a small grocery and several restaurants if you
need food, drinks or snacks for the day. There is a burger
stand/ice cream stop and also a brew pub within easy walking
distance.

Directions:
Take your best route to Interstate 84 in Oregon. From east or west,
take Exit #44 into Cascade Locks. Follow Hwy 30 (Wa Na Pa St. From
east or west you’ll be going the right direction when you come off
the exit) to Port of Cascade Locks Marine Park. Enter the park,
pass under the train tracks, and at the intersection turn RIGHT
towards the play structure. The event will be held near the first
cook shack on the left, directly after the playground and restroom
building.




Tentative Schedule:

9:00 a.m.  setup


10:00 a.m.  Gate open…did we mention that it’s
FREE?

10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Turn in entries for the
“Hauksgarðr Half-dozen”
contest


11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  A&S
CLASSES


11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Rapier workshops

11:00 a.m.  Armor inspection and fighter
authorizations


11:30 a.m.  Hauksgarðr Defender tourney
begins.

1:00 p.m.  Potluck feast (time aprox., after defenders
tourney)

2:00 p.m.  Voting ends for largess contest

2:30 p.m. CLASS: Basics of
Heavy Combat

4:00 p.m.  Presentation of the defender’s shield and
awards


4:30 p.m.  clean up site


5:00 p.m.  Site closed – have a safe trip
home!

Other info:
Pets welcome on leash. This event is in a public park, so can
sometimes have a bit of a “demo vibe”, as people will
wander in to see what’s going on. Be nice to the public. We
like them.

There is open, moving water
nearby. Please watch your children
carefully.

Bring your own feast gear,
drinks and snacks for the day. Pavilions and dayshades are allowed
and encouraged.

If you need a place to stay the night before (or plan to hit the
Pub and need it for after, maybe?), Cascade Locks has three RV
parks/campgrounds and several hotels. The little campground right
there at the Marine park is very nice, and walking distance to
Thunder island Brewing!
