A&S Classes and Activities

Classes:
11:00 AM Period Magic – learn how to do the famous Cups and Balls
magic tricks to amaze and entertain your friends.

12:00 PM All About Marzipan

1:00 PM Constructing a basic coif: practical application of
hand-sewing. Six students. Students please bring a basic sewing
kit. Ages teen and older. Teacher provides linen for coif and
pattern. Linen thread will be available for student use, as will
bees wax for thread. No fee, although a few dollars for materials
will not be turned down.

2:00 PM Basic Naalbinding 101. Number of students: up to 6
Description: We will be going over basic naalbinding using the Oslo
stitch. We’ll practice making a basic row of stitches, how to
increase and decrease in a row, and how to join in the round. We
will also learn how to add yarn as we go since this is done with
short lengths of yarn that are joined. There will be a short
handout to go with the class. Items provided: plastic tapestry
needles and wool yarn. If you wish to bring your own naalbinding
needle in wood or bone that is fine. If you bring your own yarn
make sure it is a heavier weight wool in a light color. My favorite
brand so far is Lamb’s Pride Bulky by Brown Sheep. Items you may
need from event steward: Just space to sit in a circle so everyone
can see me.

3:00 PM SCA Signs – this class is open to youth and adults who
would like to learn some signs to help you know what is going on in
court if there is a Silent Herald.

Dirty Half-Dozen Largess Derby
Audney will
host a Baronial Largess Derby. All entrants create 6 items based on
a theme that are suitable for Baronial largesse. All entries must
be tagged and ready to be gifted at the event. Items need not be
documentable as this is not an Arts and Sciences competition. Items
should not have heraldry on them as they can be given to other
areas. Judging will be by the “beads in a cup” method – each
contestant and landed Barons and Baronesses in attendance will
receive voting beads. The winner of the Derby is the person with
the most beads in their entry’s cup. The winner gets to select one
item from each of the other entrants. A gift of one of each entry
will be given to the Barons/Baronesses in attendance and the rest
of the entries will be placed in BAO largess.

Fiber Arts
Shanea will host a gathering of
our Fiber Arts enthusiasts beginning at Noon.
Bring your spinning, knitting, embroidery project, or sewing. Learn
a new skill, share your current project, and enjoy the company of
your fellow artisans.

Games
Lady Emma La Rousse D’Argentan will
be our Games Mistress for the day. She will bring the classic games
of chess, mancala, backgammon, and a few others for the enjoyment
of the populace.

Scribal Table
Come paint charters with our
Baronial Scribes. New painters welcome – we will have practice
sheets and loaner brushes and paints if you want to try out this
activity.

Court
Please send your court business to
the BAO Court Coordinator ahead of time so that we can be prepared.
Late additions to court business can be given to Annaka at the
event. Traditionally, Sergentry Candidates declare their intent to
attempt the Trials at this event. If you are thinking about
Sergentry, contact Baroness Maricka before the event.

Music / Bardic Entertainment: TBA.
