A message about the period Fishing class from Aerngaldra

Greetings good
gentles!

Here is some information on the upcoming class I am teaching at
Border War.

We will be making period fishing line from horsehair, as well
as
making hooks and a float, all in a period manner. This class is
free,
and materials are provided. I will *try* to get a few good poles
cut
for people to have, but if you really want one you are Highly
Encouraged to cut your own willow pole and bring it. It should
be
approximately as long as you are tall, and at least the diameter
of
your thumb throughout. Willow is an excellent choice, but any
flexible
sort of a straight-ish and reasonably stout branch will
do.

You do not need a fishing license to attend the class; however, if
you
wish to test your newly-made equipment out, you will need a
one-day
license (whether resident or nonresident) for Saturday. These can
be
purchased at sporting goods stores and some convenience stores,
and
inexpensive, even for non-residents. After the class, I will be
demonstrating use of my own medieval fishing rig, and quiet,
non-fish-scaring observers are welcome. 🙂

The class will likely take about an hour and a half to get
everyone
through making their lines, hooks, and floats. We will also
discuss
some period sources for information on fishing and fishing tackle
if
time allows.

Any questions or concerns, please feel free to send them my way!
🙂

Be well,

Aerngaldra
