ARCHERY CONTEST INFO

Here is a listing of the
archery contests that will be held at Honor War. There will
be prizes to be had in many of the contests! The Archery
Championship of Lyonsmarche will be won by the archer with
the highest overall score that wishes to be considered for
the Championship, so it behooves you to shoot in as many
contests as possible. You do not have to be considered for
the Championship to shoot in any or all contests; you will be
simply be asked before shooting if you want to try for it or
not.

HONEYBEE SHOOT – You
will have 6 arrows to shoot from 20 yards at six worker bees.
Each hit (breaking a line) on a worker bee is worth one
point, but multiple shots on the same worker do not count;
i.e., if you hit one worker with three arrows, you receive
only one point. However many points you have entitles you to
that many arrows to be loosed at the queen bee; hits on the
queen are worth three points and must be fully inside the
lines.

DRAGONSLAYER SHOOT – A
great and terrible Dragon is menacing Lyonsmarche’s
fruitful lentil fields! This strange, purple wyrm with the
moronic grin (he is apparently strangely popular with young
children) must be slain at all cost! You will have six arrows
to shoot from 20 yards. Hits on the body are worth one point
(dragons are well-armoured!), however hits to its evil heart
are worth 5 points. Even worse, this horribly fecund Dragon
is attempting to hatch its dread offspring on our beautiful
lands; shoot and destroy its eggs for 10 points per egg to
ensure they don’t hatch!

FALLING STARS SHOOT
This will be a night-time clout shoot on Friday night.
Glowsticks and zip ties will be provided to be attached to
your arrows. At the sound of the winding horn, each round of
shooters will loose their arrows towards the heavens to
(hopefully) fall within the target ring. Hits within the ring
will be worth 3 points apiece. Due to the unique nature of
this shoot, we will have to ensure there is no wind blowing
in the direction of the shooters from the target area. Heavy
or otherwise adverse winds will result in cancellation of the
shoot as we will not risk safety of participants or
bystanders. If you have never practiced clout shooting
before, it is HIGHLY advised that you do so before
participating in this shoot.

ROVING BUNNY HUNT – When
Lyonsmarche’s lentil fields aren’t being menaced
by dragons, they are apparently being nibbled to death by
ravenous bunnies of disgusting cuteness.  Please save
our fields and fill your stewpot; we will have stationary
rabbit targets at various distances to walk to; at each
station, you will have three arrows to loose. Each hit on a
bunny is worth 2 points.

ROYAL ROUNDS – This is
the normal Royal Round shoot; you will have 6 arrows to fire
at 20 yards, 30 yards, and 40 yards, and then as many arrows
as you can fire in 30-seconds at 20 yards at paper
targets.

CHAMPIONSHIP
INFO

Archery
Championship –
Many archery contests will be held;
overall highest point total from all contests (if wishing to
contest for the Championship) will win the right to wear our
beautiful Lyonsmarche leather arm guard for one year.
Champion must return next year to run the contest &
shoots to find their successor.

A &S
Championship
– One entry to enter.  You may
enter as many entries as you want.  Please make it
something that you have not entered before in the past.
Please bring your A&S projects completed or even
if it is a work in progress.  Documentation is a
plus.  Displays are really nice.  If you
can give the judges a little presentation (what is the item,
where in period was it made, when was it made/used in period,
it’s development, a little history, how you made it, how they
made it in period, your deviations from period techniques,
and why), then that is a huge plus.

Homebrew Championship
– Again, one entry is all that it takes to enter.  One
bottle per entry.  You may enter as many as you
want.  The judges won’t complain.  Beer, wine,
mead, spirits, etc., etc.  Liquors are welcomed,
but there is a preference for other types of
entries.  Judging criteria will be based upon
established tasting criteria (clarity if applicable,
taste, aroma, etc., etc.)  Documentation is a plus,
especially if you can show it is period.  That will earn
bonus points.  If you have an A&S type
presentation to go with your entry, then that will also
earn bonus points.

Rapier Championship
– Will be Sunday morning.  Details will be in the
event copy on-site.

do’s and don’ts, drum circle etiquette, music choices, how to
dance with other dancers, and all of those little things that
I’ve learned in my 14 years of belly dancing. Bloopers and
“No sh** there I was…” stories will be shared and how to
overcome the ‘oops!’ moments that will invariably
happen when dancing.  How to “SCA-ize” everything but

Own Wooden Arrows” – Instructor – Milord Rhobert
am y Bwa

target shooting but who have not had a chance to try it up to
now.  You’ll see the step by step production of a period
target arrow and be able try each step yourself.
Rhobert am y bwa will teach you how to make your own wood
arrows for SCA target shooting.  He’ll bring samples of
materials and tools needed to produce a set of target arrows
using either attached or self nocks, and explain the
difference.  You’ll be able to try chopping various
fletchings using a modern chopper and hand cutting fletches
and have a chance to attach fletches using a modern fletching
machine.  He’ll have on hand a wide range of points
including target as well as reproduction period points to
include, tanged points as well as hollow points. He’ll
explain the difference between modern and period points and
show you how to make a set of truly period looking arrows for
your target shooting.  He will also have samples of wood
shafts of various species and diameters and explain the uses
of each, both in modern and period times.  You’ll learn
about barreled and tampered shafts in period arrow making and
why this was done. Each participant will be given a packet
containing all the information that is discussed as well as
resource lists to get your own arrow making supplies and
tools.
