Baron Dyons Annual Tournament
Date: October 3-5 2008
Gate opens at 2:00 pm on Friday the 3rd.
Where: Barony of Wastekeep (site is Sacajawea State Park, Pasco Washington)

What is that you said? You don’t have anything planned in October?

Come to the annul Baron Dyon’s Memorial Tournament (fondly known as Baron’s Ball), where you can enjoy all the best of the SCA rolled into one grand event! Visit with friends old and new as you sit back and watch heavy fighting, Rapier fighting and of course participate in many different contests that will be happening for adults and the smalls.

Saturday is the day for armored combat!! Heavy fighters will have many fighting scenarios on the field as well as within the castle. Weapons can be no longer than seven feet (one inch shorter than the height of Sir Dyon with his helm on and visor up, if you do the math!) Earn the title of winner of the battered helm for best death! Defend your keep against the marauding hordes, or fight your way through to claim new lands! Sir Dyon and Baron Sir Styrkaar are certain to come up with scenarios to please one and all.

What’s that? You prefer the clash of steel on steel? Well, never fear. Combat with rapier and dagger is also on the menu! We will be having a torch light rapier tournament Friday evening as soon as it is dark enough to light the torch. All rapier fighters come out and see how well you fare fighting in the dark. Also for Rapier fighters we will be having a Rapier Rose Tournament on Sunday. Come out and fight for your inspiration.

Need help with your device and/or your new SCA name? Well we have a treat in store for you. Come and visit the heraldry table where HL Juliana De Luna (AEstel Herald), along with the wise and capable heralds of Wastekeep, will be ready and eager answer all your questions.

Want to be our Bardic Champion? Bring your voice to sing a song, tell a tale or entertain us in another fashion during feast.

Those of you that would like to show off your talents in the Arts and Sciences bring your items for them to be seen and judged as you vie for the tile of Wastekeep Champion of Arts and Sciences!! A&S competition rules: Judging will be on, an object of your choice. Judging will be on craftsmanship using period techniques and styles. Also submit a short write up on how the object was made, where and how you learned the process, and any information you have on where and when this process was used in period. Note down from where the when you drew any cult rural elements or motifs that you have incorporated into the object.  Objects will be on display to the populace and judged during the day, and will be completed before evening court (contact Don Jack Tyler for more information on this as he is our current champion).

Of course what would an event be without conversations with good friends and a feast.  Feast is a pot luck dinner please bring a side dish to contribute to the feast.  Come enjoy the delights of the table whilst visiting with your friends (and make new friends, too).  We are also planning on dancing–it is Barons BALL, after all–so bring your dancing slippers 🙂

Contests that will be happening are as followed:

Siege Cooking Contest
Voice Heraldry contest for smalls;
Ugliest device you can come up with by following all the rules (must be family friendly);
Vegetable animal construction for smalls;
Arts and Science Championship;
Bardic Championship;
And a mystery contest… you wont know it is even happening… hummm wonder what it could be??????????

Feel like merchanting? Give me a jingle and we get you a space.

So now you know what is happening. Come out and enjoy a weekend of fun and excitement and help us welcome Baron Styrkaar and Baroness Stjarna to their Baronial seats.
