Greetings, traveller. Come inside and warm yourself this
feast day of SS. Crispin and Crispinianus. Perhaps you might
share with us what brings you to Wales on this road to the
shrines at Glastonbury (perhaps your faith is much older). Or
perhaps you have other business. Will you not entertain us
with news or a story from your journey, or from your home? We
get so little traffic , but today we are fortunate and rich
in visitors, and may learn many things from each other. We
hope you might stay and join us this evening for our local
folk festival, for which we shall elect our King Dwfus to
chose his Queen Glyn and preside over the feast and revels.
But fear not, we make no act of sedition or displace our
rightful sovereign. It is only our local custom, a mock king
to celebrate the season, and rule over that magical time when
the line between our world and the spirits fades, when normal
rules are suspended, and all are equal under fun-loving King
Dwfus and his joyful Queen. You may, if you wish and it is
your custom, come as they do in noble houses, masked,
brightly costumed, and sporting whimsical names. Or humbly as
a peasant. Or as you are with title or none. For our
festival, all rank and rule, save fun and joy, are suspended
til the morrow, when all returns to as it should be.
Our guests are encouraged
to develop where their persona is from and local events of
the time and to share these in the course of conversation.
There will be one contest to tell a story about an
interesting event on your journey here (no life-stories!).
Other activities include classes and dancing. The election of
King Dwfus will occur just before the feast at 7:00pm.
Misrule will then decend upon the feast and revels until the
event closes. The feast is also a game of Borgia-style
poisoning. Eat carefully! The site is technically dry as we
cannot bring such onto the site, but such is available onsite
from the VFW itself.
